Nothing is more infuriating than watching your guest place their drinks next to your pile of coasters instead of on one.
It surely is not that difficult, and yet the coffee and wine glass ring marks on your table say otherwise.
The first coasters were designed for decanters or wine bottles, so that they could be slid (or "coasted") around the dinner table after the servants had retired. They were in common use after about 1760. Early coasters took the form of a shallow tray or dish made of wood, paper-mache, silver or silver plate.
So, what exactly is the use of a wooden coaster? Read on to find out more.
1. Ring Marks
Watermarks -- or water stains -- are often caused by cold glasses, spills, or hot dishes places directly on the wood.
White water stains are much easier to remove, because the water has most likely only seeped into the wax or finish (in other words, the wood itself is safe).
Darker stains mean the water has penetrated several layers and has reached the wood. Removing these stains is a much tougher job and you might have to bring them to a professional for a very high cost just to have them refurbished!
2. Decorative/Branding
They are used not just to protect the surface of the table, but, as they are usually made of paper, they can also be used to absorb condensation dripping along the glass. Beermats are also often branded with trademarks or alcohol advertising.
Usually adorned with a customized image—usually mentioning or advertising a brand of beer, although they can also be used to promote a drinking establishment, businesses or special events.
3. Collectables
Some coasters are collectible items. Tegestology is a term coined from Latin ("covering" or "mat", and etis) defined as the practice of collecting beermats or coasters.
This makes coasters a wonderful piece of add-ons to your house as it is both functional and it adds some fun to your dining hall! It is even great as a gift to your loved ones!
With an option to personalised the coaster to however you like, this will simply bring it to life!
